Other than FOOD animals, whether wildlife or livestock, about the same thing that happens to humans who have souls (a lot of them don't).
Any true wildlife, bird, fish, deer, bear, et cetera, that lives wild and dies wild simply recycles - but sometimes with a multi-year delay. No set rules on that one. Those kept as pets and domesticated to any degree, recycle faster ... generally within three to five years.
A pet that is permitted to develop their personality, as many dogs do when in the right hands, will often stay close to their Masters until that Master passes too, and often, depending on the fate of the Master - there are no animals burning in hell - they not only reunite, they often spend Repose together before going their separate ways. That can take a long time in some instances .... Should the Master be among those doomed to Eternal Damnation, the pet will simply recycle on its own schedule.
If you have a beloved pet that passes, their spirits are easier to see in your peripheral vision initially, but you should also look for light shadows and air disruptions similiar to heat inversion layers. And, pets will often do the same things in spirit they did in life, snuggling, playing with other pets still living, you just have to be sensitive enough to notice!
A good place to start is to put your hand CLOSE to a lit light bulb, and see how far from it you can still feel the heat. It's going to be very subtle, and THAT is the point of training, a pet's spirit is subtle too ...
Hope this helps .............
